OCEAN CLASSES

OCEAN 101

BASIC OCEAN LITERACY

​

Learn to be safe and comfortable and to have fun in the ocean in this three-hour class. Topics covered include:

​

  • Ocean facts and myths

  • Entering and exiting the water safely

  • Using floatation devices

  • Walking, wading, floating, and swimming in the ocean

  • Waves and currents

  • Introduction to open water activities

​

Pre-requisite(s): Students must already be comfortable and self-reliant for their safety in a swimming pool. These pre-requisite skills will be assessed by the instructor on an as-needed basis.

 

SCHEDULE 

 

9am-12pm on the third Sunday of each month, or by appointment.

SAFETY: Ocean classes can only be provided if conditions are safe as determined by the instructor. The following safety matters will be evaluated prior to the start of each class: Weather; Water (visibility, waves, currents, water quality, etc.); and, Student readiness. If conditions prevent a class from taking place, we will reschedule or refund as appropriate.

WHAT TO BRING: We will provide all equipment related to the class; however, each student should provide his/her own drinking water, towel, goggles, umbrella, sunglasses, hat, and beach chair, as desired. And, of course, DON'T FORGET TO WEAR A SWIM SUIT AND SUNSCREEN! Students susceptible to sunburn may choose to wear a rash guard, which is a tight-fitting "swim shirt." Students susceptible to cold temperatures may choose to wear a wetsuit vest.

OPEN WATER ACTIVITIES

We can teach you and your family to participate in a variety of popular open-water activities, including: 

​

  • SNORKELING

  • KAYAKING

  • STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDING

​

Pre-requisite(s): Students must already be comfortable and self-reliant for their safety in open water. These pre-requisite skills will be assessed by the instructor on an as-needed basis.

 

SCHEDULE 

 

We will establish dates and times with each student or group based on the activity or activities selected. CONTACT US for more details.

FEES*

1 hour: $60

3 hours: $150

5 hours: $200

 

*Fees DO NOT INCLUDE equipment rental, which will be paid to a separate vendor and will vary based on the number of activities selected.
